The hundred word story

The trick is knowing where to start. Not at the beginning, there’s no time for it.

I need to grab the reader by the collar, yank them into the crucial place and time, when this fascinating person meets that irresistible problem, moment of wonder or wisdom.

The reader is confided in, can’t turn away from the singular emotion, one central idea. And this moment is vivid. Each word carries plot, voice, mood and deeper meaning and is essential.

Here comes the last line. A smack or a sweet kiss on the chops, and the temptation to imagine all the rest.
